VW to Release All-Electric Compact SUV

Volkswagen Group to Reveal I.D. CROZZ-Influenced Compact SUV

At the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show, the I.D. CROZZ concept vehicle made its North American debut. Based off this vehicle, VW is going to introduce an all-new electric SUV in 2020. After that, Volkswagen plans to revive the Volkswagen Bus in 2022. Continue reading to learn all about how the VW's future all-electric SUV will be designed!

The I.D. CROZZ's Power

This vehicle made its first appearance in April of 2017 in Shanghai, and was updated in Frankfurt later in the year. The I.D. CROZZ has voice-activated doors and planned self-driving technology. The vehicle's powertrain combines a pair of electric motors with an 83-kWh lithium-ion battery pack. One of the motors creates 101 horsepower while the other produces 201 horsepower. Vehicle experts project that this concept will provide a maximum range of 300 miles.

Now, Let's Talk Design!

The I.D's design is absolutely breathtaking! It is powerful yet clean. There is dynamic lighting, both on the inside and out. When you get into the vehicle you are greeted by a 360-degree light: first, the glass Volkswagen logos light up. Then, a white line develops to the left and right from the front badge, then it passes on to the LED headlight graphic line. The individual light elements really welcome the driver, and make them feel at home in the vehicle.

Then, there are the five 'Smart Lights.' The 'Smart Lights' are interactive and slim LED elements that communicate with passengers. As the driver or a passenger begins voice control to either open or close a door, the door panel 'Smart Lights' become active. When a driver says, 'Hello I.D,' another 'Smart Light' above the Active Info Display in the driver's sight becomes active. The 'Smart Light' also helps a driver by providing visual cues through use of interactive light signals in situations that could potentially be hazardous, an example being when the system detects a pedestrian on the vehicle's right side.
